#1 way to slow down your healing
There are many different spiritual or emotional explanations for certain conditions.
I’m thinking about certain spiritual guides, who offer charts of specific physical conditions and give specific spiritual reasons for them.
Or ancient wisdoms that link certain areas of the body to certain emotions, like connecting the liver to repressed anger.
If you’re anything like me, the first thing you do when you’re struggling with something is to come up with an explanation of WHY..
And this makes complete sense: If you have a reason for a problem you can fix it.
But, when we rush to explain our state without pausing to check in with the body, the answer will come from the mind and our “need” to find a solution.
It’s not that the answer isn’t valid. It could be true.
BUT … it’s never the whole picture. And a partial picture can only provide a partial solution.
If we want to get the whole picture we need to check in with the body.
Wondering what that looks like?
Let’s say you have a theory about why your shoulder is tight, which is that you’re carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders.
Want to know if it’s really true?
Set an intention to listen to your body.
Spend time grounding yourself in your body and then notice the sensations that arise in your shoulder.
Spend time with these sensations: greeting them, describing them and telling them that you’re listening.
Notice those sensations in more detail now that you’ve told them that you’re willing to sit with them.
It’s possible that just by meeting them in that gentle and curious way they become less intense.
When they’re ready, ask if there’s something they want you to know.
If they’re not telling you anything, it’s possible they’re not ready. They need to know that they can trust you.
It’s also possible they can sense you have an agenda. If so, let go of it so they can talk to you.
You may also ask them how they feel about your initial theory.
You might get a full confirmation or a partial one with more specific details or corrections to your theory.
Their corrections or additional details are the hidden gems of your healing.
