“Time is a healer”. True or false?

When something hard happens it can seem as though the more time passes the less pain you feel, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the suffering goes away.

Time can take the edge off, but often the suffering takes a different shape and manifests in ways you can’t even imagine.

The passing of time can feel like you’re more removed from the trauma, but unless you take steps to actually heal, it’ll affect you in ways you might not recognize at first.

You might think you’re over it, but suddenly you’re getting sick more often than usual or a chronic condition flares up.

Maybe you start having unexplained fears you didn’t have before or your world starts to become a bit smaller, more isolated …

It’s hard to see how these new behaviors or physical manifestations are connected to your trauma because there’s a time lapse between the traumatic event and its manifestations, so it seems like they’re coming out of the blue.

If you understand that unhealed trauma will always have some kind of effect on your feelings, behavior or physical well-being, you can trust that whatever symptoms you’re experiencing serve as a red flag that something needs to be healed..

Your symptoms are the tip of the iceberg. What needs to be healed isn’t always obvious.

And, if you’re experiencing new trauma, maybe in the form of an accident or a loss of a loved one, you’d be doing yourself a big favor to engage in trauma healing as quickly as possible, so you don’t have to develop these symptoms.

The best way to address trauma is through the body because trauma gets stored in the body.

And that’s exactly what Somatic therapy does. If you’re ready to heal, DM me and we’ll get your healing started.
