Telling Your Body’s Story

Introducing Telling Your Body’s Story

Telling Your Body’s Story is for anyone craving further emotional and spiritual growth through a body-based, organic, and intuitive process.

It’s a bi-monthly (twice a month) group class that incorporates Authentic Movement (more on that below), writing, sharing, and sometimes drawing.

It’s a class for every mover, no experience required, that will give you a connection to community and an opportunity to drop into awareness, find inspiration, and embodied authenticity on an ongoing monthly basis.

This is about you making space on a regular basis for self-care. Most of us want to commit to self-care, but somehow, life, logistics, and other people’s needs often manage to crowd it out.

We say “Friday I’m gonna take that yoga class, meditate, or listen to that audiobook about acceptance,” but Friday arrives and the kids, work, house, or meetings somehow get first priority. How can we keep ourselves, and our attention to healing, centered in our own lives?

By committing to ongoing work, rather than expecting ourselves to make that decision daily. By making one decision to do regularly scheduled work, it is right there, and we will actually do it! We can break the vicious cycle of decentering our own needs.

Second, this work takes time. Listening to ourselves, sometimes for the first time in our lives, is a process. And there’s a lot to hear. Taking the time to tell our story, use our voice, and not shy away from the effort required to heal is a powerful choice. It is a muscle we can learn to use, but as with any muscle, it takes consistent action.

Doing anything every once in a while won't create meaningful change. We actually can change our brain and body through regular action.

Let Your Body Voice Its Feelings, Patterns, and Needs

Authentic movement is one of the principal tools we will use to listen to our bodies. It is a practice of moving without agenda, letting the body reveal what it is holding. It is a transformational and powerful way to let our body voice its feelings, patterns, and needs.

We are amazing creatures. We adapt and survive to what the world throws at us, and have since we were born. Some of those adaptations require holding in emotion, controlling ourselves, being “strong” or “brave.”

We are told to repress our sexuality, fear, anger, grief. But where do those feelings go? They are stored in our body, in the actual muscle, tissue, organ, and bone. We build defense systems to continue holding them in. We make them stronger and stronger until we have created a cage for our authentic being.

Authentic movement unlocks that cage and slowly allows us access to our deeper selves, emotions, and allows us to begin the process of really seeing ourselves, the first step towards true healing. It relieves deep levels of long-held tension, stiffness, pain, and limitation.

It allows us to express things we cannot even name. It opens us up to catharsis, expression, openness, and acceptance. It disrupts the cycle of holding on to our past hurts, allowing us flow, forgiveness, and self-care.

 Who Is This For?

This work is by application only. You are welcome to extend an invitation to friends or family to apply.

My goal is to create an inclusive, compassionate, soulful group of women interested in personal growth, group support, and exploration of the relationship between mind and body.

Going Deeper with One-on-One Sessions

You have two options for participating in this class: 1) attend two group classes per month or 2) attend two group classes per month plus two one-on-one sessions with me. The one-on-one option gives you access to the twice-monthly group class in addition to two private sessions with me.

The private, one-on-one work is about providing you with a safe container so that deeper healing may occur. It relies on deep listening and collaboration, I let my intuition follow your intuition.

You might ask what doing private one-on-one sessions will give you that goes beyond the group class. As in any private therapeutic experience, having someone solely focused on you allows for significantly deeper work for many reasons. The work, the prompts, the rhythm, and the flow are all based on what is happening to you, rather than on an average of what the whole group needs. Everything is based on what is happening for you.

As a result, deeper, more personal, more vulnerable work arises, and the safety of the space, with only your needs on the table, dramatically deepens. We can take things that come up for you in the group classes and explore them in a more comprehensive, improvisational, and personal way.

What Do We Do in Private Sessions?

We start by checking in to see what issues you are bringing to the session. These can be broader life topics or present moment stresses. Some of these things might have come up for you during the group sessions. When you participate in private sessions, you have supportive space to look more thoroughly at these issues with the help of a guided, experienced facilitator.

We will both pull on the thread of what has arisen and we will find our resolution to the session by continuously asking the body to tell its story using movement, talking, sounding, emoting, writing, and maybe even drawing.

This work can sometimes open up channels to deep emotions. Know that all of your feelings, sounds, responses, and expressions are invited into the session.

This practice listens to the body and gives it permission to speak its truth through body awareness and movement. I act as a witness to your story, in an atmosphere of radical acceptance. This work connects to places in the body that need support and invites our inherent intelligence to foster deep healing.

When Does Telling Your Body’s Story Start?

We will start on July 11th, pause for August (when I’ll be visiting my family in Israel), and re-group in September to continue.
