“The only time I get to rest is when I have a cold.”

For a long time, I only rested when I got sick or was injured. Honestly, it got so bad that a part of me was almost relieved when I got a cold.

It meant I could stop and rest.

Rest is often viewed in our society as a sign of laziness. Which is why everyone is so stressed out all the time.

So I have a new perspective for you today.

What if you could view rest as a sacred, a spiritual practice that allows you to feel safety, trust, and worth?

Just as pernicious as “I earned this ice cream at the gym today” is “I earned my weekend rest by overworking all week long.” In fact, I hear clients talk about earning rest all the time.

Rest is a fundamental right, a biological necessity, and should be treated as an essential component to our ongoing health.

And I’m not just talking about 8 hours of sleep (though… are you getting 8 hours of sleep?). I’m also talking about a day off, a vacation, a staycation, a cat nap, a long lunch, and a wandering walk to nowhere just because.

For most of us, rest requires mindfulness, changing our attitudes towards rest and self care, and really choosing and reveling in moments where we choose to rest.

Question: how will you choose to rest TODAY? (sleep at night not included!)
