This little list will change your entire day.

Constantly feel like something bad is going to happen?

You’re not alone AND it’s not your fault.

Your nervous system is expecting that something will go wrong because at some point in your life, things actually did go wrong. And chances are, you were caught off guard.

Your nervous system is doing an incredible job of protecting you from having that happen again.

And to keep you safe it constantly scans the environment and anticipates what can go wrong.

To help it relax,  it needs to realize that nothing’s wrong right now. And guess what?

You can help it do that.

You can give it some actual evidence that things are going ok.

This “evidence”? It’s called disconfirming experiences.

The fun part is that you don’t even need to make a special effort to create an experience that’s going well.

A lot of things are already going ok.

Actually, if we stop and notice it, more things are going ok than not.

It’s the small things that we take for granted.

Like the times you have a meeting with someone and they actually show up or you order something and you get what you ordered.

I know it sounds a bit ridiculous, but we rarely stop to notice that things are not bad.

But when we do, we prove to the nervous system that we’re OK.

Today I was thinking it would be nice to do something fun with my son before he goes away for a few weeks to work at camp.

I thought he would want to spend these few days hanging out with his friends. I mean, friends or an adventure with mom? I’m going to assume friends will usually win out.

But I asked him anyway.

And guess what? He said yes.

I’m definitely making a big deal out of it and letting my nervous system know that things are not as bad as it thinks they are.

What are things that you can recount from today that didn’t go wrong? Making a list of all your successes and little surprises can turn your entire day around. Enjoy it!
