“Unresolved past is destiny; it repeats”. Thomas Hübl
“In a deeper sense, a great deal of human suffering exists because of the denial of the past and an inability to acknowledge and integrate it.
But when the decision is made to finally look at and feel the past, everything shifts.
For example, if I or my ancestors have been suppressing grief, and this deep sadness is allowed to come forward so that I begin to authentically feel it, it will be painful, yes, and yet the more I allow its honest expression, I will almost certainly also experience a release.
And if I continue to make this process a conscious practice, I have begun the work of healing integration.”
This quote was shared in my Somatic Experiencing training that I took this weekend. I can’t believe I just finished the second year (1 more to go)!.
We talked about intergenerational trauma and how to work with all the different ways it affects us, creating emotional difficulties and bodily symptoms.
It was such a heartwarming experience to be with sixty plus practitioners from all kinds of healing modalities:
💫 Talk therapists
💫 Bodyworkers
💫 Yoga instructors
💫 Movement & art therapists
All of them dedicated to the work of relieving the suffering caused by trauma.
When I looked at the screen and saw myself amongst these healers I couldn’t believe it.
I get to be part of this unique group of humans who help others break the cycle of hurt.
There’s truly no other way to create a better world other than to heal our own individual wounds.
If you haven’t had the opportunity to reflect on generational trauma in your own life, this might be a great opportunity to see openings for healing and empowerment.
