What will I gain by adding movement to my life?

We all know that the best way to create sustainable habits is to find our internal motivation for doing something.

So if you’re thinking about movement as a habit you’d like to sustain, it’s much more powerful to ask how exercise will add to your life.

Burning calories or reaching a certain weight or even, “getting healthy” will only get you so far.

Instead, think about what you’re about to GAIN by adding movement into your life.

Here are a few ideas:

Feeling connected, laughing and sweating and feeling ALIVE

A sense of mastery - we humans need to feel competent. It’s one of our biggest drives. So maybe you’d like to work on balance, strength or flexibility. Maybe you’d like to be more coordinated or develop your sense of rhythm. That sense of mastery is yours for the taking

A sense of power in the face of an inconsistent world When the world makes you feel uncertain, you’ll know you can rely on YOU to get that movement in

That feeling that you can leave your bad day at the door and just enjoy, like when you were little and you ran through the grass as fast as you possibly could - a total sense of freedom

A feeling that you can tap into an unending source of creativity

What are some internal reasons YOU can think of for engaging in joyful movement?
