When what you’re going through feels like it’s too much to handle:

Things to do when what you’re going through feels like it’s too much to handle:

  • Make a list of all the people in your life who can support you in the way you need and let them know you’re struggling.

  • See if there’s specific information out there that would be useful in helping you handle your struggle. A book. A lecture. An expert you can consult with.

  • Make a conscious effort to include activities in your day that help you enjoy the present moment and give you a sense of agency.

  • Set time aside to check in with your inner states so they can tell you what’s going on on a deeper level. If you don’t have such a practice, you can learn it through Somatic Therapy.

  • Seek professional help.

As you make a list of the people you can rely on for support, you might realize that there are more people that you haven’t considered.

Take note, some people can be of support around certain topics and might not be helpful around others. Remember we all have experiences or trauma, and the people in your life do, too. Their own experiences might make it difficult for them to think clearly and be present with you.

If what you’re struggling with is a common problem there might be some information out there that can be useful in navigating the territory of your specific issue.

Make a list of activities to engage with when you feel you’re spiraling into those “too big to handle” feelings. Make this list in advance, maybe when you’re feeling good, so you can draw upon this list when it gets too hard to think.

Getting help in dire times is crucial. However the greatest support and healing is done through relating to your inner states and giving them your love and attention.

There’s nothing more healing than that.

Establishing a regular practice of relating to your inner states in times of relative calm comes handy when the big storm hits.

You can learn how to do that through Somatic Therapy.
