Healing pain and chronic illness with Movement

Feeling stuck with a physical condition, chronic or injury? Remember, your body is very adaptable. Movement plays a vital role in healing. Don’t give up.

If we think nothing will change, it is very likely that… nothing will change. When we expect pain, we will usually experience pain.

It is a very understandable or common practice for an injury or pain cycle (migraine, body stiffness, fibromyalgia, etc) to cause additional tension beyond the actual pain or discomfort of the source.

Imagining that we are about to feel pain will tense up the muscles, cutting off circulation, pinching nerves, even pulling our skeleton out of alignment (causing even more dysfunction).

So, preparing for pain will inevitably add to our pain. What if, instead, we did not prepare for pain, but rather stayed open to the possibility that our pain might shift, our balance might return, pleasure might enter our body?

Life IS change. The act of breathing, pumping blood, shedding skin cells, digesting our food means that we are CONSTANTLY in a state of movement and change.

If we are in constant change, that means that anything is possible at any moment. Pain can disappear. Pleasure can appear. Something that was difficult can become easy. When we expect change rather than expecting repetition, we free our bodies from the tension of self-protection.

Are there times when self-protection is necessary? Absolutely. But when we stay relaxed, mobile, open, and aware, we offer our body the option to change, adapt, and break a cycle of pain.

Be open to change. Get yourself unstuck from a physical condition through body awareness and movement. I invite you to join me in one of my Joyful Movement classes.

I hope to see you in the studio!
